Dur Hot Spring Trek is to follow the old expedition route of Gangkhar Puensum (mountain) towards Bumthang passing along several hot springs. Hot water springs in Bhutan have medicinal values where you can relax and shower in its mineral-rich waters. The trek will take you past forested areas of Cyprus, juniper, spruce, hemlock, and maple. En-route hiking several animals might be encountered such as musk deer, Himalayan bear, herds of blue sheep enjoying the natural wonders of Bhutan.

The prime highlight of the trek is the hot springs. These hot springs are considered the best for healing skin and skin-related diseases. Apart from trekking have great cultural sightseeing at the prominent locations in Bhutan like the colorful Paro, the tiny capital – Thimphu and the old capital city – Punakha. Dur Hot Spring Trek is for all nature enthusiasts at the same time experiencing the cultural, religious and historical aspect of the Land of the Thunder Dragon.

Beginning our Dur Hot Spring Trek, after breakfast drive through the valley straight north to see the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong, a victory fortress of the 17th century. On the way back stop at the Takshang (tiger’s nest) view point, visit a farm house. After lunch visit Ta-Dzong (National Museum) which is considered to be the one of the best natural and historical museum and walk down hill for a view of Paro Dzong with its traditional bridge over the Pa-chu (Paro River).Evening at leisure in the local market. After breakfast one and a half hours drive to Thimphu the capital city. Enroute visit Simtokha Dzong built in 1627 the first Dzong built by Shabdrung, now it houses the school for learning national language. Check in at hotel. After lunch visit the National Memorial Chorten, built in memory of the late King. Stroll in Thimphu market in the evening. Overnight hotel
After breakfast visit the visit Zulikha Nunery, and also visit the Handicraft Emporium/Chokey handicraft and the National Painting School. After lunch visit the traditional gold smiths and a stroll in Thimphu market in the evening. Overnight hotel
Today is a long drive to Bumthang (9-10 hours) The drive will be over the Dochula pass at 10’000 ft. and then descend to the Wangdue valley at 4’000 ft. After viewing Wangdue town and the Dzong continue your drive to a convenient spot for pack lunch. Enroute Trongsa town and Chumey weaving houses.
After breakfast explore the valley which is different from other valleys in Bhutan. It is a spacious and open ranging in altitude from 8’500 ft to over 13’000 ft. It is a haven for trekkers and hikers. Today you can spend the day visiting diary farm and local weaving and also visit monasteries. Prepare for your trek.
Dur Hot Spring Trek Day 1 : Distance 18 km and walking time 6-7 hours. After breakfast drive to Kurjey Lhakhang, from here it is 8 km drive on unpaved road . The trek starts at Dur Zam.The route takes you along the Chamkhar river famous for trout’s and is very gradual throughout. Camp at 3120m.
Dur Hot Spring Trek Day 2 : Distance 12 km and walking time 5 hours. Today your route will be through dense forest of cyprus, juniper, spruce, hemlock and maples. This trail is muddy and climbs gradually till your camp site. Overnight camp at 3160m.
Dur Hot Spring Trek Day 3 : Distance 17 km and walking time 6-7 hours. Today you trek along more or less through similar vegetation till the camp site which is above tree line. Overnight camp at 3780m.
Dur Hot Spring Trek Day 4 : Distance 18 km and walking time 6-7 hours. The trek is all the way up until you reach Julila pass at 4700m. On clear days surrounding mountains can be viewed. After crossing the pass the trail descends till you reach your camp. Musk deer, herds of blue sheep and Himalayan bear may be seen enroute. Overnight camp at 3590m.
Dur Hot Spring Trek 5 : Relax your muscles in the Tsachhu (hotspring).

Dur Hot Spring Trek Day 7 : Distance 27 kms and about 9 hours, we are covering up 2 days walk today and will be doing Tsochenchen-Lungsum-Gorsum. Camp at Gorsum
Dur Hot Spring Trek Day 8 End of Trek : The trek starts at Gorsum and ends at Dur Zam, from here you will drive to Bumthang.
Approx. 7-8 hours drive to Punakha.
Visit Punakha town and Dzong and do a 2 hour roundtrip hike to Chhimi Lhakhang (temple of the Devine madman. After lunch to Thimphu (3 hours)
Morning at leisure/shopping. After lunch drive to Paro and leisure. Overnight Hotel.
Your Dur Hot Spring Trek terminates today so after breakfast your representative will help you with the exit formalities and bid you farewell and wish you happy journey back home.
